GRILLED MANGO & PINEAPPLE SALAD
Paired With: SUNSTONE 2021 GRENACHE ROSÉ
What a great way to start your backyard feast! Despite the name, this is not what you would think of as a “fruit salad”. It is a traditional salad (i.e. lettuce) with the fruit added. The mango and pineapple in the salad complement the mango, papaya, and pineapple notes in the wine. This also has red bell peppers in it, which accent the wine’s pink peppercorn notes. Light and refreshing!
PROSCIUTTO PEACH BITES
Paired With: SUNSTONE 2021 SAUVIGNON BLANC
This easy summer appetizer requires no cooking and takes only 10 minutes to prepare! Prosciutto tends to be salty, which begs for an acidic sparkling or white wine like this Sauvignon Blanc. The fresh mozzarella also pairs best with young, crisp, dry whites. But the thing that brings this one home is the congruence with the white peach notes in the wine. Enjoy!
KANSAS CITY BBQ FLANK STEAK
Paired With: SUNSTONE 2019 FIVE ERAS
The term “barbecue” means different things in different places. In this case, we don’t mean the California definition of BBQ, but rather the Kansas City version- meats with a tomato and brown sugar-based sweet sauce. This type of sauce needs a fruity yet complex red wine to bring out its flavors. Enter…the 2019 Five Eras. This combination of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is the perfect mix to bring out the sauce’s flavors. And because flank steak is not an overly fat cut of beef, it won’t need a wine with big tannins (which this isn’t). Get this on the grill, stat!
RASPBERRY JALAPEÑO SHERBET
Paired With: SUNSTONE 2020 GRENACHE
Yes, you read that right- raspberry and jalapeño. What a combination! In this case, there actually couldn’t be a better combination to pair with our 2020 Grenache. This wine has a lot of red fruit notes, with raspberry being the predominant one. In addition, it has lots of pepper and spice notes that seamlessly pair with the jalapeños in the sherbet. This is another one that only takes about 15 minutes to make. Cool down with this on those hot summer days!
